The liberal government refuses to admit, what the US, Britain and even the UN all say is genocide against people that ISIS has on their kill list. Why? Is it because trudeau supports ISIS, is it because trudeau is muslim, or is it just because trudeau will do the opposite of what is the intelligent thing to do. The trudeau liberals are showing they are cowards in every way.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the vast majority of his Liberal MPs committed one of the most despicable, cowardly and politically correct acts in recent Parliamentary history.
Trudeau, most members of his caucus and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May voted down a Conservative motion asking the House to declare ISIS guilty of genocide against Christians, Yazidis, Shia Muslims, women, and gays and lesbians.
That ISIS is genocidal is obvious to nearly everyone who has watched the group’s hooded butchers commit grisly mass murders live on the Internet.
Among the Liberals, only Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Etobicoke Centre), Karen Ludwig (New Brunswick South West), Anthony Housefather (Mount Royal) and Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Beaches – East York) voted in favour of the opposition motion.
Of course the Conservative caucus backed the motion. It was introduced by their interim leader Rona Ambrose. But the NDP and Bloc supported it, too.
Such pan-party support makes the Liberals’ actions even more reprehensible.
Were the Prime Minister and his MPs motivated by political correctness and their overarching belief in multiculturalism? They just couldn’t bring themselves to disparage radical Muslims no matter how brutal or extremist.
Or were they indulging purely in crass partisan politics? Their disgust for the idea of siding with the Tories trumped their revulsion for the beheadings, immolations and other horrific executions ISIS commits against its enemies and anyone the group sees as infidels.
It was probably a bit of both. The Liberals’ appalling refusal to label ISIS for what it is – a genocidal death cult – was likely equal parts “progressive” ideology and partisan maneuvering.
Regardless of their motives, the Liberals’ defeat of the motion was inexcusable. It was the moral equivalent of U.S. President Barack Obama’s refusal to utter the words “radical Islam” in connection with terror attacks.
Coupled with their decision to withdraw Canadian forces from the combat campaign against ISIS, the Liberals’ vote leaves the impression the government is soft on terrorism.
But just as disgusting as the government’s vote was its excuse for why. Trudeau claimed his government couldn’t go along with that genocide label because the United Nations Security Council had not yet made a formal declaration that ISIS’s actions were actually genocide.
Even U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said in March that in the Obama administration’s opinion, ISIS “is responsible for genocide against groups in territory under its control.” He added, the extremist group is “genocidal by self-acclamation, by ideology and by practice.”
Kerry explained that he was not trying to undermine the UN’s authority to make official determinations of what is and isn’t genocide, but what ISIS was doing was so obviously a crime against humanity that the U.S. didn’t feel the need to wait for the UN’s inevitable decision.
The Obama administration’s response was weak, but our Liberals’ was weaker still.
Canada must not feel hand-tied while the UN ponders and pontificates and dithers. We must not subcontract our foreign policy to the debating society on New York’s East River or delay action until the corrupt, ineffectual, biased UN gets around to making some sort of announcement.
As it turns out, on Thursday a UN commission of inquiry on Syria reported that ISIS was indeed committing genocide against Yazidis (Kurds who practice of an ancient monotheistic religion). That prompted Liberal Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion to promise the Liberals would redouble their efforts to have the Security Council make a determination of genocide against ISIS.
Yippee! That’ll certain send a shudder of fear down ISIS spines everywhere.
The Trudeau government has become bogged down by its own liberalness and Canada’s national security will suffer.
